I had a customer request for a necklace that would compliment an ~aging~ neckline other than a standard type *chain*. My first thought was "What do you mean by an aging neckline (considering my aging neckline)?" The customer laughed and said that at 49 (age at the time of this writing) of course I wouldn't have a clue as to what an aging neckline was, which made me giggle [see, no matter how old we think we've gotten, someone is going to come along and make us feel like a spring chicken...thanks so much!!] Anyhoos, we sent her several ideas and this was one of them.
I actually got this idea from a booklet called BEADED NECKLACES by Jane Sherwood. Her pattern was for a choker using pearls and regular necklace findings. My customer wanted something in goldish tones that would also work well with a basic blue jean wardrobe and was unsure if she wanted a 16 or 18 inch necklace, which are the standard lengths. I opted to make an adjustable length choker/necklace to suit different wardrobe necklines.
This particular necklace uses 8mm Brass round beads and size 11/0 glass irised beads in navy blue (colors kinda change like a peacock feather, so allows for lots of versatility). I made it with an adjustable type fastener so that it could be worn at a couple of different lengths. Laid out in a line, it measures about 19 inches. Being worn at the first adjustment it's a hair over 17", 2nd it's a hair over 17 1/2", 3rd is 18", and final is a hair over 18 1/2", and the width is 7/8 of an inch.
