Tulalip Squirrel, a beaded picturein round beads of a Tulaip Squirrel totem sketch.

Tulalip Squirrel, a beaded picturein round beads of a Tulaip Squirrel totem sketch close-up.

One of the most challenging patterns Iíve done, this Pacific Northwest totem is based on a pen and ink artwork done by Michael Gobin of the Tulalip Tribes in Washington State. It took me almost 2 months to perfect the beadwork pattern to properly represent this image of a Squirrel.

The squirrel is a gatherer, building up stores so that it is prepared for anything unexpected. By hiding its food reserves in different places, it can survive even the longest winter. Its other characteristics are adaptability and speed. It just so happens that because of the months of involvement that I had with the Tulalip Tribes, the 'Squirrel' actually became my personal 'spirit totem'.

Weaved in flat vertical peyote with size 14/0 round Japanese glass beads and mounted in a 3-legged freestanding frame. Total measurement is 4 ľ x 8 inches.

This picture can be reproduced, but keep in mind that the image, to be true, has to remain in black and white, but you can change the background colors. Also, the framing may be different depending on availability.  Contact Sunshine for your custom order ideas.
